ICE CREAMS ANS ELEVATORS BYU´S FIRST MOVIE 1971(GELADOS E ELEVADORES O PRIMEIRO FILME DA BYU EM 1971)



In the spring of 1971 several students at Brigham Young University produced BYU's first student film made for class credit. "Ice Cream and Elevators" was financed by the BYU Culture Office headed by student body VP Russ Wood. The film was produced by Robert Starling and directed and edited by Dean Stubbs.

 It is a playful campus romance that captures a slice-of-life of BYU campus culture at the time and some of the cherished dating traditions of that era. The 28-minute movie was premiered before 6,000 students in the Smith Field House on campus on May 6, 1971, and it ran until the end of the term in the on-campus Varsity Theater. Since that time it has been an underground cult classic at BYU. It was entered in a student film festival in San Francisco but was disqualified because the judges said it was "too good to have been produced by students". However one judge wrote that if the film accurately depicted student life at Brigham Young University he wanted his daughter to enroll at BYU!


Na primavera de 1971 vários estudantes da Brigham Young University produziram o filme "Ice Cream e elevadores" foi financiado pela Secretaria de Cultura BYU chefiada pelo corpo discente VP Russ Wood. O filme foi produzido por Robert Starling e dirigido e editado por Dean Stubbs.

É um romance no campus brincalhão que captura uma fatia de vida da cultura BYU no campus no momento e algumas das tradições acarinhadas no namoro daquela época. O filme de 28 minutos foi estreado perante 6.000 estudantes na Câmara de Campo Smith no campus em 06 de maio de 1971, e funcionou até o fim do prazo no campus on-Varsity Theater. Desde essa altura tem sido um clássico culto de metro na BYU. Foi inserido em um festival de cinema estudantil em San Francisco, mas foi desclassificado porque os juízes disseram que era "bom demais para ter sido produzidos por estudantes". No entanto, um juiz escreveu que se o filme retrata exactamente a vida de estudante na Universidade Brigham Young, ele queria que sua filha se matricular na BYU!
